Protocols
Standing orders for every unit working the case. Read them before you open a file.
I. Bounty Matrix
Points are awarded the moment a valid flag is entered against a case file. Every file's bounty is fixed by its classification. There are three classes of file:
Brute-Force Countermeasures
The archive defends itself. Repeated invalid flags against a Medium or Hard file trigger a defensive lockout: five wrong flags inside a minute seals that file for your unit — one minute for Medium, two for Hard.
The countermeasure stays dormant for Easy files.
Standings & Timestamps
Every second counts. A unit's rank is decided by its total points.
On a points tie, the unit whose final flag was entered earliest takes the higher rank.
Flag Format & Validation
Every flag is a plain ASCII string in the standard format. Flags are checked case-insensitively.
cryptic{alpha_numeric_string_with_underscores}Enter the whole flag, braces included, into the flag field of the open case file.
Intelligence Dissemination
Intel reaches you through one of two channels, by file class:
- Hard files — intel is pinned inside the case file itself as an addendum once a set time has passed. Keep watching the file.
- Easy & Medium files — hints and field updates are broadcast only on the official Discord server.
Rules of Engagement
Breaking the rules of engagement is a breach of conduct. Your unit's clearance will be revoked immediately.
- Do not attack the investigation itself. That means the scoreboard, sign-in, or any other platform service. Everything you need is inside the case files.
- No denial-of-service, and nothing that gets in the way of other units.
- Do not share flags or methods between units.
- Stay inside the scope each case file gives you. Anything outside it is treated as hostile.
